Okapi in the Wild

Well, I am a sucker for wildlife, and the Okapi is about as rare as they get.
.
The Okapi was originally thought to be a made up, mythical animal (like the Duck Billed Platypus), when dead animals were brought back to Europe.
.
The first wild Okapis weren't brought back alive until the 1900s.  Originally they were very very rare.  In fact, the San Diego Wild Animal park used to breed them and get over $250,000 per animal in the 1970s.  Now they are much more common in zoos.
.
But in the wild, they are still very rare.  This is because their small range coincides with a war zone.  So picture in the wild are a testament that animals can make a come back, if you give them a safe haven.
.
Yeah!
