Zela's Skin

So as I am in the desert, I changed all the sprinklers (we use drip watering). It's been, you know, years since I have put them in so I changed them.
.
Well, now I look at my skin and there are a gazillion little cuts and marks from the spiky plants, the ocatillo and the rest.
.
And I realize, I have my Grandmother's skin. I remember that she could walk across the room of upholstered chairs, and cut herself. I feel like that now.
.
What happens? You hit 50 and your skin suddenly gets the thickness of Japanese Rice Paper?
