Crazy Eyes Has a Point

Crazy Eyes, in a discussion of how to create jobs, and change the tax rate has a point or two.
.
I will ignore the create jobs part, since her answer is "legalize American Energy Production" - which is of course bullshit.  Energy production is "legal" regardless of the consequences of gulf oil spills, West Virginia toxic rivers and combustible water in New York and Pennsylvania.  You can argue it is good or bad, but not that it is "illegal".
.
But in the taxes section she says something interesting.  Actually TWO things that are interesting and I agree with.
.

“Tax rates are only one piece of the puzzle,’’ she said. “I want them flatter, fairer, simpler. Taxes are extremely complicated. They can’t be reduced just to a sound bite.
“The principles are what’s important. Only 53 percent of the American people pay any federal income tax, (and) 47 percent of the people pay zero federal income tax. That’s not fair. Everyone benefits from this magnificent country. Everyone needs to pay something, even if it’s only 10 dollars. Everyone needs to be invested. I believe we have to broaden the base to include every American. It’s about time, and it’s only fair.’’

First, I think she makes a good point that taxes ARE complicated and shouldn't be reduced to a 2 second sound bite.  Good for her.
.
Second everyone should pay something.  I agree with that.  Of course, I would also include companies, which now have freedom of speech rights.  Why should GE, Verizon and Boeing pay NO taxes and actually get refunds.  Paying nothing and moving jobs offshore simply shows that these individuals (as the Supreme Court says corporations are) are freeloading illegals.  But rant aside, I do think paying, at least a nominal, income tax is important.
.
If you don't pay any income taxes, you shouldn't get to vote (waivers for Armed Forces, and retired people that worked).
