One wonders.... What Are They Thinking?

See, here is the problem.  The legislation here would allow North Carolina to define a state religion (I am guessing it will not be Islam).  Now the bill makes reference to the "fact" that First Amendment (which specifically says the state shall not establish a religion) only applies to the Federal Government.
.
States, so this thinking goes, can do what they please.  (Thinking, in the aforementioned context should have big wavy "quotes" around it.)  This train of thought, of course, carried to it's logical conclusion means that states can segregate, establish slavery and outlaw wearing white after labor day.
.
The same legislation could, theoretically, allow North Carolina to establish residency ONLY by being part of the afore mentioned state religion.
.
The legislation is, aside from stupid, an invitation to legal challenge and a waste of tax-payer money.  Christian or otherwise.
