Huge Hibiscus-like plant

So Eddie and I took a bike ride over to Brooklyn today.  One of the things we passed kind of shocked me.  It was this giant Hibiscus.

Looking at the description at Home Depot, it is a non-tropical member of the Hibiscus family.  It is also known as Rose Mallow.

Well, I never heard of it before.  The flowers are massive.  And it reminds me of home (there are red Hibiscus hedges all over the middle of LAX).
