The Afghan War Stumbles Towards Year 17

I complained about the purpose of the Afghanistan War under George Bush the Younger, under Barack Obama and now under Donald Trump.

There was a time we (Americans) couldn't believe the Soviet Union was drug into a war that lasted a decade in Afghanistan. We are well on the way towards doubling that total.

There is no reason to keep this up, except that the military doesn't want to lose and if we keep blowing shit up, we get to keep remaking it with jobs in America. But war games in the desert with live ammo would do the same thing at a far lesser cost in American and Afghan lives.

Getting out of Afghanistan was one of the Donald Trump promises I liked, and one he hasn't kept. Too bad. The way we, as a public, have causally dismissed this war and its human toll is an embarrassment for both Republicans and Democrats.
