Players reaction. When they got tired of showing the bone they decided to showcase the emotional pain of his friends. |
.
A poor guy landed and his bone shattered and shot through the skin of his calf.
.
It showed college as a professional sports factory farm - and that poor player has lost his future. And no on thinks he really did much as a "student" to fall back on.
.
And the CBS zoom in on it was disgusting. Twice we saw the bone puncture out of his skin. Twice. We shouldn't have seen it once! Then it was on the news (with the "don't watch this" preface). Don't watch's ass. That is why they put it on. I changed channels - a lot. CBS national news and ABC national news both showed it. Only NBC referred to it without the video.
.
The players were likened to "racehorses" repeatedly. "These kids have so much training and work so hard, they are really like racehorses, Cliff. They are amazing athletes, but can be really fragile." Did no one in the booth realize that a) the put racehorses with a broken leg down! and b) they are students too. No mention was every made of that - well because they really aren't.

The Mike Rice debacle at Rutgers University has put the second nail in the coffin for me.

Mike Rice - class act. |
.
AFTER the were bounced from the tournament, video came out showing the coach hitting guys, throwing balls at point blank range at guys' heads. Screaming "you fucking fairy, what are you a fucking faggot, block that asshole." Oddly enough that verbal screams got more notice that shooting balls point blank at guys heads - but whatever.
.
Anyway, after this video leaked he was fired. But the AD knew (and had seen the video) before. He was a good coach and getting to the tournament was more important than any coach's behavior. At a University.
.
So the Final Four has kind of been highlighted as what it is, a "All Star" game to showcase talent for the Pros - with very little "college" interaction, except in money and fans. I can usually pretend that college sports is about the school and the sport. But this week that has proven impossible.
