Old Tatic, Same Result - We All Need To Learn

So, in Houston the ordinance overturning equal treatment for homosexuals in housing and employment was overturned.  People are shocked.  Me, not so much.
.
Now in general I would chalk this up to Southerns hating homos, but not in this case.  You see the anti-equality group used a tried and true tactic.  The scare tactic that if this passed men would use the women's bathroom.  That is how the ran the anti-argument.
.
Even the Campaign Signs say No Men in Women's Bathrooms
I suppose that many people in Houston thought most people would see through this.  They don't.  And, it isn't exclusively anti-gay.  This exact same line is what doomed the Equal Rights Amendment (for women) in the 1970s.  We should have learned since then.
.
If you want to pass a law for equality and are hit with this, the right answer is NOT to ignore this tactic.  It is a proven winner.  It is a simple, strong message for people that resonates with voters who not engaged before the vote or know what a proposition concerns.  And unfortunately that is most voters.  Most voters don't have time to understand the nuances of arguments, they are too busy trying to make a living.  And the idea of Men in the Women's room just seems scary and wrong.
.
Fear is going to motivate more people to vote than an abstract idea of "equality".

Don't get made, get smarter.
