Live from an alternate reality.....

And now for a few moments of "Live From an Alternate Reality.. A Few Moments with the Republican National Committee as they elect a new chairman".
.
This is a quote from Mike Duncan, out-going chair., "The Democrats mean to use this opportunity of unchallenged power to explode the size and scope of the federal government, to take control of entire sectors of our economy, to crush the conservative opposition through parliamentary procedure and redistricting," he told RNC members, winning applause. "The goal is to indoctrinate a generation of American children to the gentle comforts of the nanny state ... The only thing standing between their agenda and success is the Republican Party."
.
To which one must say, "Whaa...?"
.
I get that is is the taking point, but really.  Let's interject the teeny tiniest does of reality here.
.
Explode the size of the Federal Budget.  I believe the last time that occurred was with the Medicare Prescription "Reform" - promised at $300,000,000 for 4 years - later updated to a more realistic $750,000,000 for 4 years.  Passed by a Republican House, a Republican Senate and signed by a Republican President.
.
Explode the scope of the Federal Budget?  I believe the last time that occurred was with "No Child Left Behind" which helped plopped a big turd of Federal Rules into the punch bowl...a traditional local concern - of elementary education.  This was passed by.. wait for it... a Republican House, a Republican Senate and a Republican President.
.
When on earth was the last time the scope or size of the Federal Government was reduced?  Oh wait.  Under a DEMOCRAT.  Under Bill Clinton Welfare Reform passed and reduced both the size and scope of Federal Responsibilities and, for added good measure, gave decision making power to the states.  Don't get me wrong, it was bi-partisan legislation that passed with both Republican and Democratic votes.  But - as the recent zero votes for the stimulas points out - Republicans no longer believe in bi-partisanship.  Only playing games.
.
I'm not really hot about it, I just find it fascinating that they can be so delusional.  Republicans have some good ideas - but constructing a fairy tale land where they are the Don Quixote tilting at imaginary windmills doesn't help them sell those ideas.
