New York Musical Theater Festival

The New York Musical Theater Festival is a once a year showcase for 21 days of (duh) new musical as works in progress. Some go on to off-Broadway or Broadway runs. Some just putter out. Some are just places for writers to work shows.
.
All the shows are $20 bucks and I will be reviewing a couple for MusicOMH, but tonight I just went and saw something for fun. I saw "Fat Camp".
.
It was fun and cute (without being too "Up With People") and showed the fat kids as kids - some nice, some mean (of course all the skinny kids were mean). Anyway - the point is that the vibe of the whole festival is totally fun. I mean it was just very positive with mainly other youngish theater people in the audience. It was a kick.
.
I see (to review) The Happy Embalmer Friday.
.
In an unrelated note - well from the show so related I suppose... Obama is becoming something of a joke in New York for being all talk and promises and no action. I bring this up because it was a punch line in Fat Camp (when someone was talking and talking but everyone in camp knew there was no action behind the words referred to as an Obama) and got a huge laugh from the insanely liberal audience. I don't know how the Prez is going down nationally, but in New York everyone (the anti-war crowd, the gay crowd, the health care crowd, the progressive who want to put even a tiny control limit on Financial companies crowd - pretty much all the liberal groups bar SEIU) is really over him. We all gave him a huge majority in both houses and the biggest electoral majority in decades. Get off your ass and get something done.
