Institutional defaults on Billions of $$$$ are treated VERY differently than if you or I default on a home loan

Institutional defaults on Billions of $$$$ are treated VERY differently than if you or I default on a home loan...

.
This is the web site of Tishman Speyer. It is a very nice web site. Snazzy company controls billions of dollars of real estate.
.
Now a few years ago, looking for a nice quick win, they purchased New York's Stuyvesant Town - a large residential complex for a few $Billion. Then the the property market crashed. So Tishman Speyer decided not to pay for Styyvesant Town.

Now if you or I "decided" not to pay for something we bought, we would have to file for bankruptcy protection. We would lose our credit rating. We would, in short, be screwed. But Tishman Speyer gets to "default" with ZERO consequences.
.
It isn't fair. In no sense of the word is it fair.
