So I went a saw "On A Clear Day" on Broadway with Harry Connick Jr. Bleh.

He should look like this. |
I tried to really enjoy this show. They have changed the story and that wasn't the problem. The problem was all around Harry.

First, he looks bad. Now, this isn't a particular problem, he is old. But he is the star, so he has to look the best - so they have hired a cast of ok looking people and dressed them and cut their hair so they look
terrible. His acting is lousy - and that is probably only 80% his fault. I know he was directed to "act" sad, which apparently was interpreted to be .. stilted. He played this "emotion" as someone with zero charisma.
.
All this would be fine if he sang his ass off. He does not. Many of the people in the show sang well, he held back a lot. Even as I sat through the damn show, to hear him sing "On A Clear Day" - he didn't knock it out of the park.
.
Now the rest of the cast, stuck in 1970's platform shoes and orange bellbottoms or faux 1940s outfits. Sang great. But the show - such as it is - revolves around Harry - the big black hole of fun at center of it.
