Ivory Trade : Wrong Approach

As China gets richer, the demand for Ivory increases.  And now, as millions of Chinese are getting into middle class, Ivory is one of the luxury goods they are demanding.
.
This demand is causing the massive deaths of elephants in Africa and Asia - even in well patrolled preserves in South Africa that were holding up well until recently.  So the world is working to curtail the supply of Ivory.  This will not work.
.
If we have learned nothing, NOTHING, from the drug wars we should realize that you can't kill a trade by eliminating supply (well, once all the elephants are dead, you can - but that is a fate to sad to think about).
.
No, you have to eliminate demand.  Chinese people are just as rational as anyone else.  Ivory now has the association with beauty and luxury.  Show what happens in reality.  That is how the rest of the world has weaned itself off Ivory.
.
This is the face of the Ivory Trade.

Worse (and the pictures that should be shown) after the break (not for the squeamish)
