The Things We Don't Know...

The things we don't know continue to amaze me.

The latest is the workings of gut bacteria.
.
Gut Bacteria sounds totally gross, but apparently they are so much more critical than we ever knew.  The latest is that gut bacteria from thin people can make fat mice thin.  But gut bacteria from fat people don't make thin mice fat.
.
This comes after the discovery that a transfer of gut bacteria can cure IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), helps with Crone's Illness and other stomach issues.
.
They now think that part of the "problem" is that antibiotics, in fixing some things, screw up others.  In killing bad cells, it also kills gut bacteria.  Turns out that gut bacteria can be very important.
.
How to get "new" gut bacteria - a gut bacteria transplant.  Which is much simpler and much more disgusting than you might think.  You take the effluent from a healthy gut (poop) and treat it so it is more liquidy and then have a specialist shoot it into your intestines (up your butt).  I am sure there are much more clinical ways to say all that - but that is the bottom line.
.
This hasn't been tried on humans yet for losing weight, but has been tried on humans for IBS and it works.  So get ready to go to Mexico for some black market supermodel poop injections.
