Mascot of the Month: Christian Borle

Christian in Spamalot
Middle French Knight
The Tony Award Nominations came out today and I decided to go with a Nominee for Mascot of the Month.  I am rooting for young Mr. Borle, but it is a tough slog.  Christian Borle is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play (i.e. Best Supporting - non-musical).
.
He is up against a much meatier  performance (Jeremy Shamous in Claybourne Park - my review) and against a Hollywood Star (Andrew Garfield in Death of a Salesman).
.
But I am not picking him as Mascot because he might win.  I am picking him because he is totally fun and effortlessly glides into most roles.  US TV viewers probably know him from Smash as Debra Messings writing partner.
.
Lisa and Eddie probably remember him from Legally Blond - as the original Emmett.

What you might not know is how great he has been in a raft of roles.  Or what a great voice he has.  He was once married to Sutton Foster.  Yes, the gay guy on Smash is actually straight.  Which is odd considering how many guys are gay on Broadway, they get one straight one to play a gay guy.  But he's great at it.
From SMASH with Leslie Odam Jr. (who is on stage in Leap of Faith)

As Louis from Angels in America : with Zachery Quinto

This is from Peter & the Starcatcher as "Stash"
Stash is the Pirate who will ultimately be Capt'n Hook
This is the role, Pirate Stash, that he is nominated for a Tony for.  He won a similar award (Drama Desk) for the Off-Broadway portrayal of the same character.  The play has gotten very good reviews.  I haven't seen it yet, but Eddie and I are going next Monday.
.
One of his many roles in Spamalot.
