Les Miz made a BFD about singing "live". Well, as i would tell everyone that would listen, they weren't the first since talkies. Both Bette Middler (in The Rose) and Barbara Streisand (in A Star Is Born) sang live, as this Vulutre piece makes clear.

Also, to less effective, but quick funnier results, did Peter Bogdonivitch during the filming of At Lone Last Love. Which, I had to buy from a collector in Australia, but you can now stream on NetFlix. It is a hoot - in a car crash kind of way.
